Knowing soul insiders are currently enthusing about DEE HERON’S latest single – the infectious ‘What Do You Want From Me’. (see our recent news feature) DEE, of Course, was the original lead singer with DRIZABONE, and it’s her voice on the classic take of ‘Real Love’. The single is released on Croydon-based 3.1 Records who, last year, made waves with the lovely ‘Soul Survivor’ from TASHAN.
Label boss, ROY WILLIAMSON says the aim of the label is, “To develop, license, and release singles and albums across a variety of black music genres including Hip-Hop, R&B/Soul, House and Dance”. He adds, “A key element of all the music released by the label is that the focus will be on working with creative artists who have a true vocal and/or musical talent and are able to deliver in the studio, or live, without the need for technology enhancement. We believe there is a massive market, around the globe, that is looking for the kind of music we are going to release. There is a significant demographic of 20 to 50-somethings with a common desire to hear and buy music that has quality, and longevity, from talented performers irrespective of the artist’s age, race or colour.”
Apart from DEE HERON, the label is currently working with VERNA FRANCIS, RIKKI and FLY BY NATURE and the good news is that there’s an album from DEE on the way. The 3.1 team have already got five tracks in the can and the finished set is due for release at the end of the year. On the strength of ‘What Do You Want From Me’ it’s going to be a corker!
